Alumni Stories Morgan Vigil '11
As a Westmont student, Morgan Vigil ’11 organized an after-school computer science program to help local high school students. “My Westmont professors see computer science as a way to serve others,” she says. She interned for Green Hills Software and then worked for them as a test engineer before starting a doctoral program in computer science at UC Santa Barbara. Her research uses social network analysis to design innovative wireless systems that enable the next three billion people to get online. “Westmont inspired me by providing so many models of servant leadership,” she says. “I learned something absolutely new every single class period and built resilience to facing the unknown—as a researcher, I seek out the unknown. I feel so confident in my calling. Even when my work seems impossible, I am sustained by faith that God is using my unique skills and background to be a good steward of his kingdom.”
