Westmont Magazine Men’s Basketball Gets Highest Seed Ever
The No. 7 Westmont men’s basketball team, winners of the GSAC Regular Season Championship, were named a No. 2 two seed (seventh overall) for the NAIA Men’s Basketball National Championship, also canceled due to the coronavirus. It was the highest seed for the Warriors (26-5) since the tournament adopted its current format, and a program record, sixth-straight appearance in the tournament. Junior guard Abram Carrasco was named an NAIA First Team All-American and senior forward Justin Bessard earned NAIA Honorable Mention All-American honors. John Moore became the first Westmont men’s basketball head coach to be named NAIA Coach of the Year. Moore was also named GSAC Coach of the Year for the third time. Carrasco is the GSAC Player of the Year, only the second Warrior to ever earn the honor and the first to do so outright. He and Bessard were named to the All-GSAC team. Josiah Esselstrom was named a GSAC Scholar-Athlete.
