Art Department Off-Campus Programs
In addition to occasional traveling Mayterm programs, Westmont’s Art Department is an enthusiastic supporter of three off-campus programs: Westmont in San Francisco (WSF), Gordon in Orvieto (Italy), and IAU Aix en Provence (France).
Westmont in San Francisco
WSF, an internship-based program, prepares students to live and work as Christians in a diverse, creative, and challenging world. Students are immersed in the city as they learn about work and witness in one of the world’s most influential cities.
Gordon in Orvieto
Gordon in Orvieto, lodged in a former monastery in a historic Umbrian hill town, provides a Christian cohort-based learning community where students take a series of four courses, one at a time, with leading experts in their fields. Students also visit neighboring sites like Assisi, Rome, and Florence. Several Westmont art faculty have taught in this program.
IAU Aix en Provence
The IAU program in Aix en Provence offers a more cosmopolitan, art-intensive or art-history intensive experience alongside students from colleges and universities across the United States. IAU offers one course of study emphasizing late 19th century artists like Cezanne and Van Gogh, and another more interdisciplinary one focusing on the many cultures and histories of the Mediterranean.
